It’s in Brooklyn. The Nassau and Greenpoint Avenue stops on the G. (Yes, all you crazy Manhattanites who never leave the island, a ‘G’ line does exist).
I moved to the neighborhood at the end of December 2008, so at the time of this writing I’m only a month and a bit into my Leonard Street period. Lots of exploring and settling still to be done, but worthy of note thus far:
- 3, yes that’s three, poached eggs on the Eggs Florentine at Greenpoint Coffeehouse, plus the best breakfast potatoes around
- Words to live by: “eat, sleep, read“
- Everyone knows the best Polish restaurant (but no one seems to know the same best one)
- Franklin isn’t what it used to be (good news for the happy hipster contingent)
- The V train does not run on the weekends
- The mussels at Five Leaves are divine
- The taps at the Pencil Factory aren’t labeled
- Associated does not stock eggplants in the winter
- Basic knowledge of Polish would be helpful
- Imported Polish fudge is sweeeeet and widely available
It’s not much, but a solid start nonetheless.
Have anything to add? I’m all ears!
